Set up and process tips
Learn how to configure tipping options and process transactions with tips in Terminal Pay.
Accessing Tipping Settings
To access the tipping settings in Terminal Pay:
- Tap the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top right corner
- Go to My Account, then scroll down to Settings
- Tap on "Tipping" to access the configuration options
Configuring Tip Setup Type
Tap "Tip setup type" and select from the following options:
- Default: Standard tipping options
- Smart tipping: Fixed amounts for small transactions, percentages for larger ones
- Percentages: Only percentage-based tip options
- Fixed values: Only fixed amount tip options
- Disable: Turns off tipping functionality
Smart Tipping Configuration
1. Set Percentage Options
- Under "Percentage options," you'll see three option fields
- Enter your preferred percentage values (e.g., 10%, 15%, 20%)
- These percentages will be shown to customers for transactions above your smart threshold
2. Set Smart Threshold
- Tap the "Smart threshold" field to enter a value (e.g., £10.00)
- This is the transaction amount below which fixed tip options will be shown instead of percentages
- For example, if you set £10.00 as the threshold, transactions under £10 will show fixed tip amounts
3. Set Fixed Value Options
- Under "Fixed value options," enter your preferred fixed tip amounts (e.g., £1, £2, £5)
- These fixed amounts will be shown to customers for transactions below your smart threshold
- Tap "Save" at the bottom of the screen to apply all your tipping settings
Tipping on the card reader
Once you have set up tipping, customers will be shown the option to "Add Tip?" on the card reader.
If confirmed, the options you set via the app during Smart Tipping will appear.
